  • How do I host a meeting?
Very simple! Click "Create New Meeting". Use the 8-character alphanumeric Jam Connect ID provided or make up your own, and enter your name. Write down the ID if needed. Then, "Launch 4D Jam Connect" before your appointment (especially if this is your first time on the platform), and familiarize yourself with the app's current features. There is an Invite button in the app that can help you organize a message to be sent to your members. Note: The next time when you host another meeting, you can use the same ID or a different one. Useful tips: ✨ If your meeting does not require MIDI signal and DJ Control Panel, you can disable this option before you join 🔊 Review computer or browser sound and webcam settings before you get on 🖥️ For best experience, please use Safari on iOS, Chrome on MacOS and Android, or Microsoft Edge on PC ❌ Close other tabs and applications 🔌 Keep device battery charged at all times 👂 Use headphones to avoid echo and feedback 📡 Avoid Bluetooth or wireless setups, which may add an extra layer of latency 🎹 Connect directly from keyboard to USB port without an audio interface
  • My friend asks me to join. How do I do that?
Find "Join Existing Meeting" above. Enter the Jam Connect ID that your friend provided you, and your name. Click "Launch 4D Jam Connect". Jam Connect ID is 8-character alphanumerical.
  • Have you got a video demo of what the experience is like?
Our platform supports both acoustic and digital instruments.
  • I cannot hear them and they cannot hear me. What should I do?
Information on the "Review before joining" screen can help you troubleshoot your audio and cam settings. For desktop / laptop users, check out this link for steps to pre-select your audio and cam sources on a Chrome or Edge desktop browser. After the troubleshoot, restart your computer and browser. For mobile / tablet users, check your volume knob and level. Here are some of the most common problems: The device was muted. The volume was turned all the way down. Incorrect input and output devices selected either under the computer system preference or the browser setting
  • We cannot see each other, and we have been trying for quite a while to connect.
Possible reason #1: One of you might be behind a secured firewall. Contact us for more details. Possible reason #2: One of you might have encountered unstable internet. A quick Refresh might solve the problem. Possible reason #3: If you cannot see yourself once you click Join, you need to permit the webcam setting to be accessed. Check the app's welcome page for more details. For example: 💡 Further troubleshooting for Mac: 1. ⚙️ System Preferences > 🏠 Security & Privacy > Privacy tab. 2. Unlock (click) the 🔒 lock icon in the lower-left to allow you to make changes to your preferences. 3. Click Camera in the left sidebar and then select the checkbox next to Chrome that needs camera access. 4. Click Microphone in the left sidebar and then select the checkbox next to Chrome that needs mic access. 5. On Chrome > Click the video cam icon next to the website link in the address bar > Select 'Always Allow'. 6. Restart browser.
  • Once I join the session, I get a loud audio feedback. What to do?
In a meeting with more than one person without a headphone, this will happen. We recommend that everyone uses a headphone whenever possible. Tips: Ask everyone to refresh the app and select Echo Cancellation ON before joining.
  • Can I see someone or someone's screen share on fullscreen?
Yes absolutely! Hovering on the video and you will find an icon that takes it fullscreen.
  • Does your platform work on computer, tablet, and mobile?
Yes! We have had successes anywhere from Macbooks that are made in 2013, to Android phones of many different brands, and anything else in between. For best experience, please use Safari on iOS, Chrome on MacOS and Android, or Microsoft Edge on PC.
  • MIDI is connected but it doesn't work, or it's lagging behind.
🎹 For anyone who has a keyboard plugged in: Once the 4D Piano is rendering successfully with sound, it may ask your permission to unmute the piano on the screen. Once accomplished, you may choose to un(mute) the 4D Piano and/or turn the volume up/down on the physical keyboard. See below for further troubleshooting methods. 👇👇👇 👂 For everyone: If you are listening through Bluetooth headphone, the sound will lag behind. Try to use a wired headphone. Did you select "Disable all MIDI traffic and DJ Control Panel plyaback system" by mistake? This option is only for those who don't need any MIDI signal during the meeting. 🎹🎹🎹 Further troubleshooting for the keyboard player: Be sure to connect the keyboard <> computer cable before you begin the 4D Jam Connect session. Otherwise, refreshing the page would let the browser detect the keyboard. Does the app dialogue acknowledge that the MIDI device is detected? If so, does the 4D Piano render your playing visually? If so, check your audio output and volume level. Are you using a desktop or laptop with Chrome or Microsoft Edge browser? These are the only browsers that support the MIDI interface. Have you installed a driver? You may need to install a driver that is specific to your keyboard. Restart the computer. For PC users: if you are using multiple applications that support MIDI, please close them before launching 4D Jam Connect. Is the cable plugged in correctly? Check that you have plugged in both the MIDI in and out pins with the MIDI-USB cable, if applicable. If you are using a USB-to-Host cable, try to connect the keyboard directly to the computer without an audio interface.
  • Does it work on both acoustic and digitial instruments?
Our platform works fine on acoustic instruments, and both digital and acoustic keyboards.
  • How many people can see each other in a meeting?
In theory, 16 is the maximum. However, it might be higher or lower depending on all of your devices, internet connections, and many factors that are beyond anyone's control. 4D Jam Connect is ideal for one-on-one meetings to up to 4 people. Between 4 to 16, you may gradually notice that the video framerate is automatically set lower. Toggling video cam / mic off manually would definitely help to maintain a smoother session, especially above 8 people.
  • How many Jam Connect IDs should I keep?
Depending on your situation, you can keep one or more Jam Connect IDs. If you would like to keep each meeting an isolated environment for only you and your invitees, you should set up a different Jam Connect ID for each meeting. If you have back-to-back appointments, having different Jam Connect IDs for the sessions would enable your invitee(s) to wait for you in a different meeting space, without them intruding on your previous appointment.
  • How does your subscription work?
We enable anyone to use our 4D Jam Connect platform for free with a 20-minute reset. If you are interested in getting uninterrupted participation for yourself, you can either purchase a Single User subscription, or ask someone who has bought a Group Subscription for the unlock code (to be entered in the Institutional Unlock box). For subscription details: visit https://4djam.com/payment
  • What's your latency specs?
This is a rather complex question, because latency largely depends on your device, internet connection, and device setup. In general, you will achieve lower latency on our (or any) platform, if you: Try to limit your opened applications and tabs Select "Disable all MIDI traffic and DJ Control Panel playback system to maximize system performance" before you join Have an ethernet cable plugged in Use a wired headphone (instead of Bluetooth headset) Suspend your Windows Security or any firewall configuration Are not recording/sharing screen at the same time Limit your meeting to 8 people or less Use a desktop/laptop instead of a mobile or tablet device Plug in your digital keyboard directly to the computer
  • How do I record?
On a desktop: The Screen Record button will lead you to the browser's screen record native function. Every browser might be slightly different, but we recommend you choose "Chrome Tab" and check "Share Tab Audio", so that the audio can be captured as well. When done, be sure to click "Save Video". A file should be downloaded automatically to your computer's Download folder. This file can be opened and shared according to your needs. On a mobile or tablet: The Screen Record button would not support it. However, you may use your mobile or tablet's native screen recording function like this. To record just the E-Piano on the screen: Alternatively, if you are just recording the virtual-digital keyboard alone, use the E-Piano Record function. The file generated after you click "Save E-Piano" can be played back magically in any keys and tempi on the 4D Accompanist App on the App Store.
  • Can I screen share?
Yes, on desktop or laptop devices. The Screen Share button on a desktop should take you to a new window where it will ask you to select the appropriate screen or window to share. We recommend you choose "Chrome Tab" and "Share Tab Audio", so that in case you are sharing a video, the sound will be heard. Keep in mind that Screen Share does take up more bandwidth. The other participants can help relieving the bandwidth by toggling their cameras off. A new window opens when you screen share. If your presentation doesn't get displayed successfully the first time, click Refresh. To stop screen share, click End on the Screen Share window. Note: Sometimes the browser would block this popup window that is vital to your share screen. To unblock, go to the right of the url address bar. Find this icon with an x, and make the selection to "Always allow pop-ups and redirects..."
  • What's your secret sauce?

  • What's the DJ Control Panel all about?
The DJ Control Panel incoporates our legacy 4D Piano mechanism that enables humans to accompany each other with a spacebar, page turner, or powerpoint clicker.
  • Is there a limit on how many devices can be used from a single household?
    No.
  • The screen is missing buttons that I usually see on previous visits.
If your browser zoom level or font size is beyond 100% (the default), you may encounter some clipping issues. In addition, if your window isn't maximized, some buttons or parts of the screen will not be visible.
